Ear Candle

Ear Candling is an alternative medicine practice in which a candle is inserted into the ear and then lit.  The procedure is claimed to have a calming and relaxaing effect as well as improving general health and wellbeing.

PDL considers this practice dangerous as it involves the placing of a lit candle in the ear canal in close proximity to a person's face and hair.  This method of practice carries a high risk of skin and/or hair burns and middle ear damage.  Accordingly, the use of an Ear Wax Candling Kit may not be covered under the PDL/Guild liabilities insurance cover unless the Ear Wax Candle Kit is registered with the TGA as an approved medical device.
